This is absolutely unacceptable! I don't have an external camera to switch on and off so that I can use my internal iSight camera. Also, I have a macbook where the iSight camera works just fine using iMovieHD 6, so why it refuses to work with my new 20" alu iMac doesn't doesn't make much sence. iMovie 8 works just fine with the internal iSight cam, but I don't like iMovie 8! Apple had better resolves this "problem" at least in the upcoming OS.

yeah what George said up there is correct:
1.open imovie HD on DV
2.select the cammera icon
3.turn on camera till it says camera attached (make sure camera in of course video camera) then switch it off and within 20 seconds the isight will work.
4. GOOD LUCK!

Re George's message.
I have found the same thing will happen with my Sony HD camera.
The ref to insite camera recording is ONLY for external plug in type.
QT pro will record from built in camera.

regards

I found this site while looking under the google search "new imac G5 isight imovie HD problems" phew its not my computer - its not some clitch unique to me that may require a 1 hr OSX reinstall........
Actually I have a sort of solution - a bit of a "Heath Robinson" approach - but it can work:
1) In imovie - connect you normal video camera - in my case a canon Mv830i, get imovie picking(or recording) up the cameras data ie camera switched on.
2) Switch camera off. With 30seconds or so I found imovie HD was picking up the isight image - record as you wish .
3) Export all clips on to desktop/other drive to re employ later.

This works in all formats except HDV 1080i.
Good luck!

I know, but I think we may be out of luck on this one, at least for the time being. I think the iSight is supported, but only the external version. I'll update this post if I ever do find anything, however.

Hi, I'm an italian user of the new iMac G5 isight, and I have the same "problem". I've seen on the web that is quite common, and I think it's a bug, since in the startup window of iMovie HD the option "iSight" is in the sources curtain menu, with DV, MPEG4 and others, BUT whatever your choice may be, iMovie only look for a DV source.
Please, let me know when you'll have news on this.
